Caller ID in a restaurant: what it is

Caller ID, in a restaurant, is the feature that identifies the customer who is calling while the phone is still ringing: the till shows the name, the delivery address and the previous orders linked to that phone number, so the order is taken without asking for everything again.

How Caller ID works in a restaurant

The phone line sends the caller's number to a small program on the counter computer. The restaurant system looks the number up in its customer list and opens that customer's card on the till. A number that is not in the list appears as a new caller and is saved with the first order.

What Caller ID needs

It needs a business phone line that can pass call events to a computer, a PC at the counter and a restaurant system with a customer database. In MyMenuo, Caller ID is part of the Pro Max and Business plans and has been validated on a Swisscom line with Go Integrator.

  • Faster phone orders: name and address are already filled in
  • Fewer delivery mistakes: the address comes from the last order
  • Regular customers are recognised and can repeat their usual order

FAQ

Is Caller ID the same as the number shown on the phone?

No. The phone shows only a number. Caller ID in a restaurant system matches that number to a customer and shows the name, address and order history on the till.

Does Caller ID work with calls to a mobile phone?

It works on the restaurant's business line. A call that arrives on a personal mobile phone is not seen by the till.
